Every fabric shop in Pakistan will tell you their wash and wear is the best. Some of it is. A lot of it looks sharp on the shelf, then pills, fades or goes shiny within a season. This guide shows you how to tell the difference before you pay, whether you buy from us or anyone else.
The short answer: the best wash and wear for a men’s shalwar kameez is a polyester-cotton blend of around 60/40, weighing roughly 170–190 g/m², with a crease-resistant finish that lasts through repeated washing and a soft, low sheen rather than a plastic shine. Buy a full 4.5 metres so your tailor isn’t cutting corners.
What wash and wear actually is
Wash and wear is a polyester-cotton blend finished so it resists creases and dries quickly. The polyester gives it shape and easy care; the cotton gives it comfort. The balance between the two decides almost everything about how it wears, which is why the blend ratio is the first thing to check.

Five things that separate good wash and wear from bad
| What to check | Good sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Blend | Around 60% polyester / 40% cotton, stated clearly | No composition given, or “100% polyester” sold as wash and wear |
| Weight | About 170–190 g/m²: hangs cleanly, not heavy | Very thin and floppy, or stiff and heavy |
| Finish | Springs back after you crush it in your fist | Holds sharp creases after 10 seconds of crushing |
| Sheen | Soft, low sheen that reads as smart | Glassy, plastic-looking shine under light |
| Length | A full 4.5 m for a standard men’s suit | 4 m “suit pieces” that force a short kameez |

1. The blend
More polyester means fewer creases, faster drying and stronger colour, but less breathability. More cotton means more comfort, but more creases. Around 60/40 is the point where you get genuine wash-and-wear behaviour without feeling like you’re wearing a raincoat. Pure polyester is cheaper to make and is where most bad wash and wear comes from: it traps heat and tends to pill.
2. The weight
Weight is measured in grams per square metre (g/m²). Very light wash and wear can be see-through in white and light colours; very heavy wash and wear feels stiff and hot. Most good men’s wash and wear sits between 170 and 190 g/m². If the shop can’t tell you, hold it up to daylight: you shouldn’t be able to see your hand clearly through a light colour.
3. The crease finish
This is the whole point of wash and wear, and it’s easy to test. Crush a corner in your fist for ten seconds, then let go. Good fabric relaxes most of the way back within a minute. Cheap finish keeps a map of your hand.
4. The sheen
A little sheen makes wash and wear look pressed and smart. Too much looks synthetic, especially in photographs and under wedding lights. Look at the fabric at an angle under a strong light before buying.
5. The length
A standard men’s shalwar kameez needs 4.5 metres. Some suit pieces are sold at 4 metres, which works for a slim build but leaves your tailor no room for a longer kameez or a generous shalwar. Our cloth calculator guide has the full chart by height and build.
Is wash and wear right for you?
- Choose wash and wear if you don’t want to iron, you work in an office or AC, you travel, or you want a suit that still looks neat at 8 pm.
- Choose cotton if you’re outdoors in peak summer or you prefer a soft, matte, natural feel and don’t mind ironing. See our cotton range.
- Choose a heavier premium fabric for Eid and weddings. Our Grace is made for that.
What decides the price
Wash and wear prices vary with the blend, the yarn quality, how durable the finish is, how deep and lasting the dye is, and brand markup. A lower price usually means more polyester, a thinner weave or a finish that washes out. A higher price is only worth it if the fabric passes the checks above. For reference, SHA LIBAS Wash & Wear is PKR 2,800 for a full 4.5 m piece, with PKR 350 delivery anywhere in Pakistan.

How to make wash and wear last
- Machine wash cold or lukewarm; hot water weakens the crease finish over time.
- Hang it to dry straight away instead of leaving it balled up in the machine.
- Skip the tumble dryer; heat can set creases and cause shine.
- If you iron, use a low setting and iron on the reverse side.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the best wash and wear fabric in Pakistan?
The best wash and wear is a polyester-cotton blend of around 60/40, about 170–190 g/m², with a crease finish that springs back when crushed and a soft rather than glassy sheen. Check those four things whatever the brand.
Is wash and wear good for summer?
It is comfortable in offices, AC and moderate heat. In peak outdoor summer, pure cotton breathes better because polyester limits airflow.
Does wash and wear need ironing?
Good wash and wear doesn’t. Wash it, hang it straight away and it dries neat. A quick touch-up on the collar and placket is usually all it needs.
How many metres of wash and wear do I need for a shalwar kameez?
4.5 metres for a standard men’s shalwar kameez. Tall or heavy builds may need 5 metres.
Why does some wash and wear become shiny or pill?
Usually because it is mostly or fully polyester, or because it was washed hot or tumble dried. A balanced blend washed cold keeps its look much longer.
