01 — For the Groom
If you're getting married this season
The groom's wardrobe spans 4-5 outfits across the wedding events — mehndi, nikkah, barat, valima, and often a sangeet or qul. Pakistani tradition gives the groom freedom to wear premium embellished fabrics that would be inappropriate for guests. This is your one season to wear silk, jamawar, and karandi without question.
The 5-outfit groom wardrobe
Mehndi
Fabric: Cotton kurta in yellow, mustard, or cream (informal) or Grace in matching colour (semi-formal)
Cut: Kurta + pajama or kurta + churidar
Spend: PKR 4,000-8,000 fabric + tailoring
Nikkah
Fabric: Pure white or off-white Boski / Grace kameez and shalwar
Cut: Traditional shalwar kameez with pleated shalwar, band collar
Spend: PKR 5,000-10,000 fabric + tailoring
Barat
Fabric: Sherwani in raw silk, jamawar, brocade, or karandi (5.5-6m of outer fabric + lining)
Cut: Full kameez-cut sherwani with structured shoulders, often embroidered
Spend: PKR 25,000-100,000+ depending on fabric and embroidery
Valima
Fabric: Grace / Boski in jewel tone (wine, navy, charcoal) with contrasting waistcoat
Cut: Premium shalwar kameez or shorter sherwani
Spend: PKR 8,000-20,000 fabric + tailoring
For the sherwani specifically, work with a tailor experienced in groom-wear — the structured shoulders and embroidery require specialist skills. Budget 3-4 weeks for stitching during peak season.
02 — For the Guest
If you're attending as a guest
The guest's rule: look polished but never compete with the groom. Premium fabric, restrained colours, clean cuts. Most Pakistani men attend 5-15 weddings as guests in a year — a 3-piece rotating wardrobe covers the season comfortably.
The 3-piece guest wardrobe
- Piece 1 — Daytime nikkah / mehndi: Cotton or Wash & Wear in off-white or cream. PKR 2,800.
- Piece 2 — Evening barat / valima: Grace in charcoal, navy, or jet black. PKR 3,500.
- Piece 3 — Statement (family events): Grace in wine red, slate plum, or coffee black. PKR 3,500.
Total fabric spend: PKR 9,800 + ~PKR 9,000 tailoring = ~PKR 18,800 for a full 3-piece guest wardrobe that lasts 3-4 seasons.

04 — Colour Guide
Colours by occasion and season
Cream / Ivory / Off-White
The universal wedding fabric. Works for nikkah, mehndi, valima. Photographs beautifully under any lighting. Most traditional, always appropriate.
Charcoal / Jet Black
Formal evening events — barat, valima, formal dinners. Slimming, polished, modern. Works year-round.
Navy Blue / Charcoal Blue
Most versatile evening colour. Works for almost any event except mehndi. Photographs richly under indoor lighting.
Wine / Plum / Coffee Black
Statement colours for family events or evenings where you want subtle distinction. Use sparingly — not appropriate as a guest at someone else's barat.
05 — Season Planning
When to order, when to stitch
Pakistani wedding season is concentrated. Tailors are overbooked from October through February. Plan ahead:
- August: Order fabric for October-December weddings. Stitching takes 2-3 weeks in season.
- November: Order any additional pieces for December-February weddings.
- March: Order one cream/white piece for summer mehndi and nikkah season ahead.
SHA LIBAS despatches all orders within 48 hours. For Bakra Eid (~27 May 2026), order by 22 May. For winter wedding season, order by mid-September.

06 — After-Event Care
Make your wedding kameez last 5+ seasons
Wedding kameezes are expensive — and they sit unused for 11 months between events. Storage and care decide whether they survive to next season:
- Dry-clean once after every event — even if it looks clean, oils from skin transfer to fabric and yellow over time
- Hang on a wooden hanger, not folded — Boski / Grace creases set permanently if folded for months
- Use a breathable cotton garment bag for off-season storage (plastic bags trap moisture and cause mildew in Pakistani humidity)
- Add neem leaves or naphthalene in the wardrobe to deter insects
- Avoid direct sunlight for both wearing in summer and drying — fades dark colours fastest

07 — FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the best fabric for a Pakistani wedding for men?
For grooms: raw silk, jamawar, brocade, or karandi for the sherwani; pure white/cream Boski for the nikkah. For guests: Grace / Boski in charcoal, navy, or wine for evening events; Cotton or Wash & Wear in cream for daytime events.
How much fabric do I need for a sherwani?
5.5-6 metres of outer fabric plus 4 metres of lining (cotton or polyester satin). Total cost in fabric alone for a quality sherwani is PKR 8,000-50,000+ depending on weight and embellishment.
Can a guest wear black to a Pakistani wedding?
Yes for evening events (barat, valima). Charcoal and jet black are appropriate. Pure black is occasionally seen as "too funeral" by older relatives — when in doubt, go charcoal or coffee black.
What's the difference between a kameez-cut sherwani and a regular kameez?
A sherwani is longer (knee-length or below), more structured (often with shoulder padding and lining), and traditionally button-front. A kameez is shorter (mid-thigh), softer, and pulls over the head. Sherwanis are for the groom and close family; kameez is for guests and daily wear.
How early should I order wedding fabric for a Pakistani wedding season?
Order fabric 4-6 weeks before the first event — tailors are overbooked October-February and need 2-3 weeks minimum in season. SHA LIBAS despatches in 48 hours, so order ~5 weeks before the wedding to give yourself buffer.
Should I wear a sherwani as a wedding guest?
Usually no — sherwanis are reserved for grooms and immediate family. As a guest, a premium shalwar kameez in Grace / Boski fabric with a contrasting waistcoat (sadri) is the right formality level.
